Marbling Paper
Marbled paper is mostly used by bookbinders but it is above all an endless voyage into the world of colour.
Marbling appears as an ocean of colour floating on the surface of the size set into motion by the use of unconventional instruments. Marbling is like the universe: though very structured initially, it takes on a life of its own as soon as the finest line is sketched on the surface. One motif after another appears: spots, algae, leaves, landscapes. The choice of colours, their strength, the hand guided by the emotion of the moment evoke peace, poetry, dynamism, turmoil, violence or chaos. All is in constant motion, like life itself. Laying the paper on the size with its colourful arabesques is one way to seize the instant. A new voyage starts every time the paper touches the surface of the size: the mystery and magic of the art is guided by a desire to perfect the technique, to master the handling of the paint in order to attain a hitherto unexplored world. |
